Hi all,

I am new to this forum but would love to get some feedback on my 1st ever rug purchase!

So a little bit about me - I live in Kuwait and I decided this Xmas that instead of getting an IPad (nearly £700!) I would get a high quality Persian silk rug as ten years from now it will be something to remind me of my time in the Middle East – plus hopefully it will keep its value.

I’ve spend quite a bit of time going around the different souks, speaking with sellers and done quite a bit of research on what to look for – uniqueness of pattern, pliability of the rug, kpsi, colour, etc. Ultimately though my decision to buy this rug was made by the fact that I couldn’t take my eyes off it! I thought it was beautiful inside the shop but when I took it outside into the natural light the colours just blew me away.

So here are the details of the rug (as far as I am aware):
- Iranian made in Qum
- Weaved by Kazemi family (recently but do not know year)
- Knot count is 70 raj (or around 670 kpsi)
- Weft, warp & pile is 100% silk (and I can tell of excellent quality when compared with other carpets I looked at)
- 110 x 150 size

I spent around 2k GBP on this rug and on a personal note I think it is totally worth it, however I would love to know whether I got a good deal as I may buy another one if I did (they had another beautiful rug of similar quality & price). For the record I saw a few rugs last time I was back in the UK and they were being sold for much higher prices and appeared of lower quality when I tested the ‘feel’ and pliability.

I’d love to know how much you think this rug is worth if a) I was to sell it in the UK/US and b) if I was to buy it there.

Using price-only indicator, I find it "incredibly" cheap... 100% silk real Qom at the price/size you mentioned...

The price is very good. If you would go to Iran, the price would be a lot higher. The stock outside Iran is still at lower prices, but on a rug fair in europe this year qum rugs this size where up to 4000 Euro wholesale price. I think these prices inflate in Iran due to the crisis and private buyers try to find a safe heaven for their cash. Many dealers are shipping back rugs to Iran since there they get better prices than outside Iran.

Hi,

Thanks for your comments.

As I said before the value of the rug I bought isn't that important really in the sense that I am really happy with the product I got for the price, but it's always good to hear that I got a good deal. The guy I bought the rug from did say that for him to buy the same rug now would cost quite a bit extra.

I might see if he still has the 2nd rug (of similar quality) as it sounds like it could be a good investment (not sure I will keep it forever as the colours weren't as appealing despite the amazing pattern). Anyway, thought I would attach a photo to see what you think anyway/

Thanks
Andrew

My advice would be don't buy a rug for investment purposes (only). If you don't like the rug don't buy it. The other one is a Qom but if it's not a design your going to enjoy don't buy it.

As for the first rug, it does look like a Qom without having real close-up images to check but if it is then it's a very very good deal with current prices as others have said.
