Two silk rugs - need some expertise

There's a rug shop around here that's closing its doors and there are two 4'x6' rugs that we like that I would like some expertise on.

1) Persian silk rug. New. Around $4,000.



2) Indian silk rug. New. Around $2,000.



Some questions I have:

1) These handmade rugs all appear to be "one of a kind" (in my novice eyes, at least) and it's difficult for me to figure out if the prices are high, reasonable, or great deals. How does someone like me value rugs like these?

2) I have done some research on the web and have a couple of ideas on how to determine the quality of these rugs. Any other "tricks of the trade" are greatly appreciated.

3) Any other expertise and insights are greatly appreciated.

The first one is most probably not a Persian silk, and if it is, it is not a Persian Quom, and the price seems to be a bit too high. The center medallion is not in the center and for a tribal rug, this will not be a problem, but do you expect that of a high quality silk rug? On the second one, the price seems to be more reasonable but the quality of the silk is not the best on this type of rug. I would suggest you spend some more time for your shopping and get better pieces, but it is all up to you.

Thanks for the response. About the second one... What do you mean, "the quality of silk is usually not best on this type of rug"?
