I have a rug I'm trying to sell from my Grandad's house which has been there a long as I can remember, but I know nothing about it, or rugs in general!
Dave of Ragrug has kindly suggested "this may be a hand knotted Indian rug from the 1970's. Some were sold under the label Chindia. It's an interpretation of a French Aubusson design. Often they're carved". However an Oriental Rug specialist has suggested it is Chinese! I am still awaiting an official valuation.

Does anyone have any other ideas? I would love to know where it's from, what it's made from and what kind of value I should be selling it at. The rug is 9 x 12ft, in very good condition and doesn't have any markings anywhere on it that I can see that may identify its origins. It has always been in a room of the house which wasn't used regulally so there are no stains or damage that I can see. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Chinese rug known as 90 line, with a cotton foundation and a wool pile, carved pattern and it's hand knotted. About 30 years ago, they used to be very popular. If you find a private buyer for it, perhaps you can ask around $1000 for it.
