Recently acquired an Isfahan. It's 2.55m x 1.55m with silk foundations, a large section (the light blue) is silk and I think the wool is Kork wool.

The rug is 20*20 knots ~ 400 KPSI. Presume it's the same all the way through - haven't checked to see if the silk part is finer. 3 ply wool as far as I can tell. 10-12+ colours.

Pretty certain the signature says "Iran Isfahan Javad Aslimi" - not sure if anyone has heard of this person or if it just an unknown weaver?

Looking for people's thoughts on the rug and what you feel is a reasonable retail price for a rug of this quality?

Attached a few pictures, hopefully they don't take too long to load:

Very beautiful Isfahan, and yes, the pile is Kork wool. You are correct about the signature. Personally I have never heard the name, and this is the first Isfahan I have seen with that signature. I would say $3000-$3500 would be a fair price for it.

Do you mean cost or retail price? I think we'd struggle to get a 50% silk Isfahan to the UK for that price buying from source in Iran these days.

For the retail, you need to raise that price with whatever margins you have. However, keep in mind that for an Isfahan having a pure silk field is really not a big advantage, the rug is not signed by a famous weaver or producer, and the blue color in the field is not something everybody would get crazy for. Personally, I really like Isfahan rugs and I think they are among the best Persian rugs ever produced, but here in the U.S., they are not very popular for whatever reason. You have got yourself a beautiful piece at any rate.

I agree with little persia - you will hardly find a good isfahan in Iran for that price. We where looking in Iran and in Hamburg for good Isfahan rugs. What we found was commercial junk and very expensice. Considering the costs of import, transport, custom duty, storage and so on, I would set the rugs selling price in an area of 3500 - 4500 Euro or 5000 - 7000 US$

Isfahan on carpetvista. Most reputable online dealers have this pricerange on these rugs.

Products offered in Europe usually have the sales tax of around 20% already included.

The second link was probably too long to insert. It is the site oriental-carpets.com.
