I have recently purchased a Persian Rug and would like to learn a little more about them in general. I am told it is 100% wool and hand knotted. I do not know when it was made, but there is a set of Persian numbers stapled to the back that read 10-1075 (I think). I have some photos. It is enormous: 24' 4" X 14', so I couldn't get the whole thing in view, right now.
What are the revelant characteristics of these rugs in terms of identification, dating, region produced, etc.?
Should I scotch guard it, as was suggested by the folks who delivered it?
Is it really hand made?
What do the numbers on it mean?
What is the pattern called?
I do not plan on selling it, but would like some info on value so I can ensure it (if appropriate).
It appears to be clean (or at least, no obvious stains), but is there something I should do if it does get dirty?
THanks in advance!!
