I have found a handmade, apparently Mashad tribal rug which is approximately 6" x 9". It is made of wool and silk. There are two versions of it in two different shops and I like both, however really don't want to pay a lot more than it's worth because I have no idea what it would be worth. It is a new rug. The majority is wool, however the highlights (including the large cream area in centre) are silk. I would like to know it's value and any more information that people may know about it.

I have attached the following photos:

Number 1 of the whole carpet taken from the light side (top closest to camera)
Number 2 is the reverse of the carpet with a quarter to show the knots.
Number 3 shows the selveges
Numbers 4 - 6 show the start and finishing of the carpet with the wool finished in a kilim style before being knotted. I have also shown a photo of this from the rear (5).

The only differences between this carpet and the second is that this one is slightly darker than the second and also the second doesn't have the kilim weave at the end of the carpet.

I would like to know what this would be worth in either US$ or UK£.

Any feedback gratefully received. Thank you

This rug is from "Khorasan" province, but not really a Mashad. The style of the weave is closer to Turkeman than anything else. This type of Turkeman rugs are produced by Afghan weavers that have settled just behind their borders mostly in Northern Khorasan. The quality of the wool as well as the dyes are really good. The silk is not top quality but is good. These rugs are very durable and decorative. However, you are not getting the top of the line here. I would say that for a 6 X 9, a fair retail price would be around $1800-$2000. Hope this helps.
