Hello:

This is my first time to this forum and it really looks interesting so I'm hoping you can help me with identifying this rug! I found the rug, today, at a sale and just bought it...I don't know why but I really wanted it. Now, I can't figure out who made it?; where, or when, it was made?; or why? It appears to have elements of an Anatolian Kilim but it is unusual in its design and colors, some of which are very pastel. The tassels are also interesting; on each of the four corners they are twisted double thick. The rug is really dirty but I figure once I clean it up it will look great as a wall hanging!

The overall size is about 42" x 78"

Any help would be much appreciated.

(3/22/2011: I've added some new photos; perhaps making the rug easier to identify.)

-3/24/2011: Okay, I don't know if this will help but this photo shows a close-up to show the thread count, (with a tape measure for reference). I also weighed the piece; it's about 7 pounds. I hope someone knows something about flat-weave rugs because I'm lost.

This kelim doesn't appear to be Turkish. My guess would be it is Eastern European or South American. Sorry I can't narrow it down further.

Could it be Morrocan. Colors like Chinese. It is odd.

I've continued to search and I can't find anything Central or South American that seems even similar. I don't know a thing about Eastern Europe or Morroco...perhaps. It is odd; many of the symbols seem Turkish yet they're also similar to symbols I've seen on rugs made in many other places. There is no border element to this rug...it seems to run right off the edge, yet the elements are in near perfect symmetry. I cannot imagine how difficult, and complicated, it was to weave.
