Customer brought this in along with numerous others that his father bought at auction in Scotland in the early 60s.

Bit stumped with this one - the border and the rest of the rug look like they could be from completely different areas. Even though it is a bit of a mis-match of designs it's still a lovely piece (to my eyes).

I find the designs interesting too, looks like they used part of a bigger cartoon for the center section of the rug, not very balanced, but fun.

Was this done with a cartoon?

it looks like a 'cartoon' was used, to me, because it is very symmetrical in design, but the whole design is shifted over, so the middle is 2/3rds over (meaning the cartoon was drawn for a larger rug), it doesn't look like a 'random' design (to me), but I'm often wrong.

Northwest Persian, between heriz and ardebil - maybe a migrant weaver

My tip would be Qum, ca. 1940 - 50. Border strongly Kashan influenced, especially the small borders, inner field a caucasian mixture. Qum did this a lot in the mentioned period.

Yes, KAD, it is from Qum. I had a few in past, all faded red color.

That is exactly what we were thinking. Kashan type borders but caucasian or ardabil influenced centre. Didn't know that about Qom but the timeframe would probably be right. They were sold at auction in 1962 so I wouldn't imagine it would have been new at the time or it wouldn't have been sold at auction.

These rugs have very good wool and are not so often on the market. After a wash it will have a great luster.
