hello, long time no post.

seller states 1910 (i think later) 8x12 persian sarouk, asking $700. I think there's some areas of concern (discolored areas and some heavey wear) but overall nice...if i got it for $300, would it be a deal...however,i don't think it's worth it...i think the problem areas are just too much, but wanted to get the forums' opinion...

please let me know; thanks!!!

It is one of the early Sarouk design, 1910 - 20. Condition as you posted yourself not good, but if you get it for 300.00, it is ok (What else would you get for 300$ :-)?). Just make sure it has no dry areas, then even 300 is too much.

KAD, thanks so much for the quick reply; I think i'm a little hesitant to attempt a low purchase because of the yellow-ish areas and were...i think it's just too much. we'll see though if she drops the price some more from here. she started at $1,250 and is not down to $700.

Also, what are the best ways to tell for dry rot; what does it look, feel, andd smell like? if it's there, is it repairable, or is this a sign that it is too far gone.

thanks again for all your help everyone!

I would not pay amy more than 300 for this rug. 700 is too much. The yellow areas are probably animal urin, there you should look for dry spots. If you pick up a corner of the rug when it is laying flat on the ground, and move it up and down quick, so the air flows under the rug, it should move soft. If there is any area stiff, fold the rug together and see if the cotton will break due to the preassure. It makes a sound sort of like opening a peanut. If you buy a rug like the one you posted, a wash is a absolute must since you never know what happened on it before. (I recommend to have any rug washed you buy from private anyways).
