I think he's right. I'll try and translate as how I understand this antique rug buying/selling phenomenon.
Rugs that have aged in the states weather faster than those that age in Europe. Be it our lifestyles, the chemicals in our washing processes, the way we wear shoes in the house, etc., American-aged rugs tend to get the antique look quicker than European-aged rugs and it is for this reason they are coveted. A 50 year old rug that aged in the states can look like a 80 year old European rug. They sell better and for more money.
