Hi,

This is an Antique Persian Oriental Rug. This was acquired by my Uncle (my Father's elder brother) in 1968 from Brighten Corner, Almora District, Uttaranchal, India. This rug has a whole history behind it and was previously a property of Raja Jahangirabad (Raja Aizaz Rasool Khan) and after his death came under possession of my Uncle who was Assistant Engineer, Provincial Division, PWD, Almora.

Currently it is under my possession. This rug is at least 110 years old and was presented to the royal family of Raja Jahangirabad's family by Persian carpet makers of that time.

Type- Pictorial

Dimensions - 6.3 x 4 ft.

Material - Wool on cotton

Colors Used - Several colors are used - green , yellow, brown etc.

Wearing - Some wearing and fading at some locations. Fringes are torn at places. Nevertheless, overall the rug looks amazing and stunning. Very minute details like the camel hooves, faces of camel owners etc. can be seen and enjoyed even now and depict the intricacy of design and hard work. Given it's age the condition can be said as excellent.

Washing etc.- No washing etc has been done since it's possession in 1968. I can't tell what happened before that period.

Please comment.

Thanks a lot.

We need close-up photos from the back, with a US quarter coin on it (or if you don't have one, with inch ruler/tape, in direction of wefts and then in direction of warps), and of the selvages (the side binding) and the fringe, see file "rug images" for details.

Pictorial rugs are not very popular in the Western world, so the value may be below that of other antique rugs on the western market.

Looks like the royal family of Raja Jahangirabad's family was cheated by the Persian carpet makers ...

At least the age is correct. Typical design from the 1950 - 60`s. But - like Bukhara posted - not hand made.

The poster writes the "rug is at least 110 years old". KAD points out that the rug age is compatible with the time the poster's uncle acquired it (=1960's).
