Hi all,

I've just returned from my summer vacation, where I made a stop in Turkey for about a week. I took a few days during that time to visit a few shops around Istanbul and Bodrum, and took a few pictures of some pieces that interested me. My question is about the large red rug, presented as a Hereke (as were the others), size 222x181, silk/silk, knot density of 12x12. I loved the design, colors and overall appeal, but the signatures (top and bottom) left me with questions. Any opinions on these from those with more knowledge?

Thanks for the help and enjoy the pictures.

Hi Bukhara, thanks for the reply. It sounds like you're pretty confident that it's a legit signature. To be honest, in my eye (untrained), the quality of the signatures don't reflect the same quality of the rug itself. Do you see my point? Also, is it common to have the double signatures, with one in reverse? Lot's for me to learn and be wary from...90% of Herekes are in fact made in China or elsewhere (or so I have heard). Thanks again for the information. Asking price of that rug was usd 40k.

I am sure that this original Hereke. Most of Hereke have signatures like this, but not as nice as we see on persian rugs. the correct price should be around 30K for the present day in Turkey.
