Framing a small rug

I've seen some rugs framed a few different ways, some are encased in glass, some have the fringe and edges tucked under (to look like a painting)...I wanted a frame surrounding my rug, but without glass and the complete rug showing...here's what I came up with: customed ordered a frame, sewed the rug to a canvas covered yardstick (cut to the width of the frame), used a staple gun to secure to frame, stretched a string across the top to drape the fringe over...the rug is secure and fun as I can touch the rug and flip the lower edge over to inspect the back (only attached at the top)...

Very nice.

From my sense of aesthetics (which is highly subjective!), if it's framed like that, I'd have the top fringe hang down the back, so that the entire rug is visible and the proportions are symmetrical. (Also, wallhangings tend to have fringes only at the bottom.) The way it is, it gives me a bit the impression as if the rug is missing the top guard border. But aesthetic views on such issues are highly subjective, as indicated.

Thanks for your visual eye...it's funny, the top fringe didn't really bother me, but I thought that maybe I should have trimmed the bottom fringe straight across (before I ordered the frame), as the uneven fringe seemed a bit distracting, but then again I wanted to show the rug as it is... I can easily tuck the top fringe behind, I will have to see how that looks:)
