Good intuition. The rug is machine made. One of the easiest ways to tell with a rug like this is by the fringe, which is stitched over the end of the rug on the front, then wrapping back underneath. I recognize this as a polypropylene machine made rug, I forget the manufacturer, but the style is what you would consider a Kerman medallion design.

As for value, really not too much. Replacement for a new machine made of this ilk would be somewhere in the vicinity of $200-320 or so. Maybe even slightly higher. I'm guessing the size is a 7'8"x11? Used value is maybe $50-$150 or so in fair - good overall condition.

whoa, thanks so much for the reply...i thought so, but wanted to ask the pros... i really appreciate it...i'll get my other pictures up of my real kermans soon so as to update their appraisal (see my other post). and yes, what sparked my interest in this piece was that it looked like a kerman...which for some reason i really like... kermans and sarouks are my rugs of choice. again, thanks.

Just as an extra tip, one good and quick way to verify a rug is machine or hand knotted is to look for alternating color knots within the design. They kinda look a little like a "Serat" pointillist painting to fill in some of the design elements. 98% of hand knotted rugs don't use this technique, and if they do, you can usually see the wool is spun with two different color staples to make one yarn, or a single knot. Good looking design tho, looks great in the room too.
