Can you diagnose likely cause of this loss?

I like this little rug but wonder about the reason for the loss at one fringe end. At the other end, there is a thin border, but here the pile has been lost. Would damage like this put you off the entire rug (it is not expensive, I just like birds).

wear, not overcasted or finished well on the ends. some new rugs just dont have a good end buffer border.
