Ebay auction 170474822591 http://rover.ebay.com/ro...s%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1

The one full picture in the listing looks interesting and the attached pictures show a high knot count.
Therefore, just the rug, not the listing or seller. What are your general impressions of the rug. Is the floating border used by some Iranian silk areas? I do not give value to signatures, but does the writing give any ideas of areas etc..

I not considering any of the seller's statements regarding price or origin of the rug. If I went to visit family I would the know the year I went back and the price I paid for the rug not just a vaque concept of the rug.
He also states no returns. Ebay allows returns if the product is not "as described" so I know I could get my money back, but if the rug was so valuable why not allow returns. The seller has no track record except selling socks and some type of juice drink.

Thank you. Of course I haven't even mentioned reserve price, but I wanted to get a better idea of the rug, but I moved to price

I meant to put this in the ebay section below

It looks to be a silk Persian Qum. The signature says "Boft Irani Qum Mohammad Fawni," meaning Made in Qum, Iran, Commission by Mohammad Fawni. It all boils down to price and condition...

And what is a very good ebay price for a rug like this. He states he is open to negotiate, but I don't even know where to start.

Thanks

The rug is a beautiful design (I had eyed it before on ebay), if he indeed paid $22,00 and his buy it now is $18,000, my guess is getting it less than $10,000 would be difficult...how much are you willing to spend on this rug? The size 6'8x4'4 applied to the rug calculator comes up with a price of about $4,824.

I won't go above $2,200 as a stab in the dark, and I would only do that after the comments from Johonnandsons. I realize the comments weren't definiitive since there were no definitive pictures

It's hard to aggressively bid for several reasons. It is also hard to pay a big price to a seller without reputation and a questionable story, and no return policy. I asked him to quarantee that I could return the rug if it wasn't silk. He responded "you can believe me" There is really only one decent picture.

I can't really take into account anything about his purchase claims since the purchase date and price aren't even specific. Besides he could have paid $22.000 for a $4,000 rug. We all know that happens
I believe the rug is very nice and a top notch silk qum rug after reading the comments. However, there are clear risks and that is why I would only pay $2,200 as a very good ebay price. I do know from my wife's experience that ebay would force a return if the products was not "as described", but who wants the hassle.

Don't think I'd touch it ----

The seller doesn't give any attribution about where it was made --- just says it's an expensive Persian rug.

People who buy expensive Persian rugs usually know where they're made. I think the buyer would end up with an Indian made Persian motif rug.

A really good Qum in this size range and in good condition would be roughly $5,000-$6,000. If $18,000 is the reserve price, yikes!
