Dear friends, recently you helped me to identify and price a carpet (thread here). I've placed it on Ebay for local sale only (listing here), and it's getting no interest. I'm in the Washington, DC area.

It's only had 5 views, no bids, no watchers. Advice from more experienced Ebay sellers? If I were to open the sale up beyond the local area, how does one ship a 9x12' carpet?

Thank you!

(PS, I'm about to post another rug on the please-help-to-identify forum)

Well I see two problems.
First, you have 0 feedback. I would never buy from anyone with zero feedback, so I think thats a huge problem for you.
Secondly, your market is pretty small if your only doing local pick up.
I would advise you to either open the auction up to everywhere, and then ship via UPS. The shipping cost would probably be 100-150 dollars minimum, or
just sell locally using Kijiji or Craigslist.

Oh ... I'd never heard of kijiji, haha ... OK, I'm editing the listing to allow non-local buyers. If that doesn't help, I'll try kijiji. Already tried craigslist, no takers.

you should ask your friends and family if anyone needs a big rug.

You need to modify your listing title. Only type in words people will search for. "No one is going to search for 'lovely" "very" "good" or "condition"...try words like "large" "rug" "Persian" (but explain where it's from), "hand-knotted". Describe any flaws, stains or low pile (or say "in like new condition..."). Post better photos (the one is dark, show where the fringe meets the carpet). Explain where you got the rug and why you are selling it (this makes people trust you more). Avoid saying people can "arrange to see it in person" as this can attract the 'wrong' type of person. Weigh the rug and use a shipping calculator to be able to post actual shipping costs. Some people roll the rug, wrap in in thick plastic & ship that way, or fold it up and put into a large box. Good luck!
