Not to defend the guy, I have never bought from him, but he may just be clueless. He has a low sell rate. I have encountered people in the mid range and craft jewelry scene who think glass crystal is the same thing as quartz crystal. Crystal is crystal, they think, real crystal. Probably the same with some rug people. It's a real rug, they's all they know.

Point well taken. There really are some $5,000 rugs that look just like the one he has advertised. But still, it would be an expensive hit in relation to what the rug is. Even if someone did absolutely fall in love with it.

eBay really would be doing a service to both buyers and sellers by having two separate categories for hand knotted and machine made rugs. They do the same thing in the jewlery area. I guy ONLY stones, i.e. rocks, minerals sermi precious stones. And even in the section designated for only natural stones, people put in glass, and they sell glass as stone. Everybody gets burned.

What is curious to me is, how many people are spending $5,000.00+ for unseen rugs on eBay? Is there that kind of confidence in the specific items regardless of unseen surprises? Confidence in known sellers? I see a lot of rugs going for more money than I would ever pay for a sight-unseen item. Have either of you done this online?

I have heard of eBay sellers making many sales of $5,000+ a year, many of which they stated were destined for overseas customers! I guess the exchange rate is in their favors, but the process entails that much more financial obligation on the buyer's behalf. Imagine: Taxes, shipping costs and no possibility for return.

Another problem with eBay searches is the seller who offers the pillow cases. Nice little cut pieces, but in no way should they thwart searches the way they currently do. I was going through eBay last night extensively, and sorting through these pillow cases proved quite unwieldy

Agreed on the pillow cases. The whole category is way to homogenous and needs to be metered out into smaller groups of specific Items. I feel the same way with the "featured items." It's great to see the higher end work, but not all of it is. So you have to wade through several pages or jump to deeper pages to find the auctions ending RIGHT NOW. A separate featured items, or premium items would be helpful too and eliminate frustration on the part of buyers and sellers.

Store inventory search was really interesting to see. That's really where you see those duplicate items as we were talking about yesterday between all the different store names.

I wish more people would use the size parameter inputs when posting the listing. That would seem to help a lot when searching, no?
