First off I'd like to say that this site seems to have a wealth of knoweldge on rugs and is a great place to find information. I've looked through a lot of posts and everyone seems to be very helpful and considerate.

Now, I have a Nain rug signed by Habibian. It's certified to be 1200 kpsi or 4 LAA. The size is approximatley 6' x 8'. I've done a lot of research on it and it seems like it should be worth quite a bit but I really can't get a good estimate on it. Pictures are attached. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Beautiful Persian Nain rug with a "Gunbad (Dome)" design. If you go to a mosque, stand right underneat the center of the dome and look up, this is what you will see. This pattern showed up in the production of Nain not long ago. So my guess is that it is made by the new generation of Habibian family, and not by the late Fathollah Habibian. This is a 6 LAA Nain, and in fact, 4 LAA Nain rugs are much rarer than a lot of people think. Take a single strand of the fringe and twist it counterclockwise. You will see that it consists of 3 individual strands each containing 2 tiny ones, it makes 3*2=6. Assuming that it is a 6 LAA and has no damages, a fair market value for a private buyer would be around $6500-$6800.

Due to the different colors of brown directly around the signature and the surrounding border, my guess is that the signature was added. It is still a very beautiful rug of high quality, but I also think it is 6 la. Please check like rugfirm described and let us know.

Well spotted KAD, the signature definitely looks to be added.

Also agree that it's not a 4laa rug, wouldn't have thought it would have such a high KPSI either - are there any images of the back?

Nice rug though.

Thanks for the replies. I went back and and untwisted the starnd as you stated. There was only two strands. I took a picture of it and it's attached. I also took a close picture of the back with a quater on it. Hopefully the pictures are clear enough to see.

Untwisit the two warps some more. There will be 2 or 3 very small strings. I came up to 30 knots across the diameter of the quarter. One quarter is about 25 mm. 30 Knots /25 mm is 12 knots per mm. One cm² is 144 knots (12 x 12). To get the right number in square inch, multiply the number of knots by 6,54. Will turn out to be about 942 kpsi. Not 1200 kpsi, but still extremely fine rug.

Yeah I got 30x30 as well so around 900kspi. As KAD said, still a very fine rug (Nains do tend to be finer than most other rugs but even as Nains go it's pretty fine).
