Hi,
I'd like some input from this community on the value of this Tabriz rug

Also is the fold line in the middle a big deal?

Is rated mid range commercial and is the price fair?

Here in Autsrlai we have a very under developed retail market for almost everything, especially niche products such as persian carpets, with highly inflated retail prices and poor service/advice.

The rugs you are looking at are of good quality. The prices are ok, since the buying prices for rugs in Iran have dramatically increased in the last 2 years. The fold in the rug is no problem.

First image is a 50 raj (Approximately 360 KPSI), brand new Persian Tabriz rug with silk highlights, nothing extraordinary, and nothing rare. The price is fair, but not a bargain. Keep in mind that this quality of Tabriz should not be used in a high traffic area as they will not easily handle it. I can't open the second link.

Thank you for your reply. I wish I could get a handle on the pricing, but I am sure I will in time...
Is the Tabriz one kurk wool? Can you generally tell by looking at a pic or one would have to feel it?

All new Tabriz 50 raj rugs are made with "Merinos" wool imported from New Zealand, and it is pretty much the same as KURK wool.

My understanding is that kurk refers to select wool taken from the neck and belly of sheep for its softness and sheen. Are you suggesting according to current practice all merino wool is indiscriminately referred to as kurk wool when woven into "fine" carpets?

No. Of course, these are not the same thing and Merinos is much thinner than Kurk wool. However, the looks and the feel, as far as softness of the wool, is pretty much the same.
