Hello...

This is our rug... we've had it a good time, and I think bought it because we like the colour, but it had a whole load of 'sales pitch' along with it... none of which we understood.
Basically... I would like to know what it is... how it was made etc, if anyone can help with that?

This is a hand knotted rug made in Pakistan with a Persian "Tabriz" pattern. Foundation is cotton and pile is wool. These rugs go through a specific wash process in order to gain an antique look, but this is brand new. The market value, of course, depends on the size.

Thanks... this is good to know.
I think we may have bought it over 10 years ago, so that would fit? I'm guessing that 'brand new' stretches for a long time in 'rug years'.

It's roughly 2.5 meters by 3.5 meters, and is in need of a clean. We are trying to work out if it's worth paying what we've been quoted, as copies such as this may be cheaper to replace.
Incidentally, that's how I discovered this forum, looking for washing instructions.

What did you get quoted for washing this rug?

Yes, new is a bit stretchable. These rugs showed up on the market about 12 or 13 years ago in remarkable amounts and where the top sellers for the last years.

Thanks.
We're quoted (euro) €60-65 per square meter, inclusive of shipping overseas etc.

I have washed it myself before, and it came out quite well, but looking at some other 'home' cleaning methods, am sure there were a couple of things that I missed, so may try again and see how it looks.

60 - 65 EUR m² is quite a lot. Please check out our rug washing video from our restoration and washing workshop we show on our German website www.artoriental.de. It is in german language but you can see what we are doing. If you need a translation, let me know.

If you send me the weight of your rug, I can give you a quote for having the rug shipped from Ireland to Germany, have it washed properly and shipped back to Ireland. We have customers from all european countries who have their rugs washed and restorated in our house.

In case you need help how to get the weight of your rug, please contact me via email, I will send you directions how to proceed.
