I live in Toronto, but right now I am in Pakitan in a city that is known for pak persian and other rugs like baluchi.

I was amazed to see that these guys take 6 months to make a single piece and 6 out 10 get rejected for export due to problems.

Here is my business plan :)

Buy 40 pieces of rugs
Go to Toronto retail shops and sell them for profit ( to the ones who are not importers themselves)
Bring more and repeat the process.
If step 2 fail, try to sell the rugs cost to cost on ebay or kijiji.

Please tell me that

a. other than my lack of experience in selecting rugs, is there any other problem in the plan?
b. What type of oriental rugs will sell faster in North America?
c. Is it a good idea to make a brand, a website under my parent company in Canada and sell with that name to the retailers
d. I know the rug dealers are smart but do they buy if I give them good prices?

I'd greatly appreciate your help.

First of all, I wish you luck if you decide to put your plan into action. However, I would recommend you do not proceed with it. This is a competitive business, and even importers with many years of experience make huge mistakes in selecting rugs for their inventory. Keep in mind that importers have established very strong relationships with suppliers over the years, and you will not have that advantage. Another factor worth considering is that handmade rugs are relatively expensive items and such business activities can prove to be very costly for you. I recommend you do more research about the market, and read some books about rugs to gain more knowledge before you do this. Good luck.
