I was very excited to come across this forum...the information here is amazing!

Anyway, I recently acquired this rug as payment for some work I did for a very wealthy couple, and I'm very anxious/nervous/excited to find out where this rug came from, what kind it is, and especially, the value that I could sell it to a dealer or private party for.

The owner mentioned that she purchased it at a high end auction, and that it is from the 1940's (not sure if that's true or not??)

It's a beautiful rug obviously, but as I live in an apartment, I have no use for it. I would much rather be able to sell it somewhat quickly and get a decent amount for it. If I had a larger dwelling, I'd seriously consider keeping it. The detail is just amazing! (In my opinion)

I'm sorry that I'm not able to get a picture of it fully laid out, it's quite large (about 10ft 2in x 14ft). Hopefully the other pictures will help identify it.

Also, it has a few stains, but nothing too serious. The only major thing is that it appears one whole side of the fringe was cut off and re-sewn on at some point. The other side's fringe is original.

Any insights as to origin and value would be GREATLY appreciated! And realistically, would I be able to sell it to someone? And where?

This is a Persian Kerman rug, and not as old as you think it is, perhaps around 40 years old. Not everybody likes the open field pattern of Kerman rugs and the fact that the fringe is not original on one end decreases the value significantly. It may, or may not, have a signature which affects the value as well. Personally, I like the color of the field, but it is not a very popular color in today's market. I would recommend that you have a local dealer look at it and give you better information about it. Such rugs are hard to evaluate by pictures but if it has no repairs or damages, then $800-$900 would be a reasonable price for it. Hope it helps.
