This is a bidjar that is 7'7" x 5'9". it's new and in great condition and weighs about 80lbs! I was told it was persian by the dealer but have had a friend look at it and they think it might be from India. The price is $3,500.00 Is it Persian or Indian? What would be a good price for it?

Thanks

If this is a bijar, it should take considerably more effort to move this rug than the other. it would be heavier, harder to fold (especially length-wise) and would clearly have a much more dense construction. The reason for this is newer bijar rugs from persia, as this appears to be, are packed extremely hard on the loom, pushing each row much closer to the rows below with great force. Bijar rugs typically do not come at a low price, but they do vary a lot in price based on how they were bought by the dealer. For this size, 3500 would be fair price for a very finely made, tightly woven, unused true persian bijar. We cannot see the knot density from your pictures, please do post with a quarter on the reverse side.

Here are a few pictures of the back with a quarter. It looks like it's 17x17 for a 289 Knot count. Is that what you're finding? Is it safe to say this is Persian? What would a fair price be?

Yes, this is a Persian Bijar, and very good looking. If it is brand new and fairly straight on the sides, it's a reasonable price. Used rugs will have a lower price, but when they get somewhat older, then they will have a higher value. So if this Bijar was used for a couple of years only, then reduce this price by 10-20 percent. By looking at the picture, my guess is that this rug is brand new.

global - this is a fair price what they are asking. knot count is good. what are your intentions? to buy to keep or as an investment? I would not suggest purchasing for quick resale if that is what you have in mind

RugPro, It's at my place now and I have not yet paid for it and have the opportunity to send it back if i'd like. It's a lovely rug and I plan to keep it for the long haul and enjoy it. I'm curious to know what makes you and Rugfirm believe it is Persian and not from India or China?

The price is far from fair - it is a real great price. They probably had the rug in stock for a rather long time and bought it at the old lower prices, because today it is almost this price if you would buy it in Iran. The rug is defenetly of iranian origin, we can tell from the wool, the knots, the design, the warp and so on. I am sure you will not make a mistake to buy the rug. Your grandchildrens children will merry on this rug, if you care for it the right way.

KAD, Thanks for the info. I'm already enjoying the rug and plan to for a long time! I have it in a high traffic area. How often do you recommend I take it to be cleaned professionally? I vacuum regularly, but I'm sure a true cleaning is necessary at some point.
