I am currently located in Kandahar, Afghanistan and planning on buying a Turkman rug. I've really fallen for the following carpet, but I need some help identifying the authenticity of the pattern, the fact that its hand made (vs machine made) and a rough idea of it's worth stateside so I can decide how much to offer.

Here are the facts as I have been told (Other then the knot count, and size I can not verify any of the facts myself, though I do have access to the rug at the shop if needs be).
The knot used is senna, and I have counted around 144 KPSI.
The material is camel hair.
The dyes are supposed to be natural.
The rug is made in Masari-Sharif.
The pattern is a traditional Ersari pattern.
Its around 10 by 14 feet.

Based on the attached pictures (I can take more/different pics if it would be helpful.) What are your expert thoughts?

Thanks,
Bruce

They are asking $2400.
After looking around on this site some more I came across the post "4 pictures you need to post to help identify oriental rugs" I posted one of the four unfortunatly. Would pictures of the selvages, fringe, and back of the carpet help?

Thanks for looking!

The pattern is authentic Turkeman. I am not crazy about colors, and do not think they are all natural dyes. However, considering the large size, the price seems to be fine, but I believe that you will be able to get better deals now that you are in the area. Also, consider the extra effort of finding older pieces as they will usually be much more valuable, and a lot more attractive. Good Luck.
