Hi,
I am seeking info on this rug (with a view to sell it eventually). Christie's have mentioned that it may be an isfahan 1920-1930. Can anyone here shed a little more light ?
Dimensions are approx. 9.5 x 12.5 ft and it has been in the family for some 30 years.

That's interesting RugPro.
Christie's and Sotheby's mentioned Isfahan 1920-30 (Christie's) to 1950 (Sotheby's). From the little I know, the majority of Qum tend to be smaller size. It will be interesting to see what other forum members have to say.
Discovering the origin and date of a carpet/rug seems to be very much like detective work :-)
Thanks again RugPro

yes qum would make it a bit more unique than isfahan to be honest. the selvage does not look like isfahan to me. It is true many qum are of smaller size, but that is more so true in post 1950 and 60.

Absolutely gorgeous piece, I love it. To me, and I could be wrong, this is Isfahan and about 50-60 years old. I enjoy looking at images over and over again. It seems that at some point, the selvedge binding has been replaced and a couple of columns of knots cut away. For an old piece, this is not a defect and is perfectly normal. It would be fair to ask around $18000-$20000 for this rug. However, I would not sell it if I were you.

Thank you Rugfirm, it's always a pleasure to share nice things.
Unfortunately I am not in a position to keep it and quite frankly do need the money so if you have any buyers, I'd be happy to ship it over.
Wishing you all the best,
Robert

Hi RugPro,
As soon as my photography studio is fitted out I will take some detailed pictures and post them. I believe it is a requirement to better appraise the quality and "identity" of the carpet. However, Isphahan 1930 to 1950 seems to be the consensus on origin and date.
I do not know if it is in the habit of posting email addresses here so I shall refrain doing so pending your approval.
If I may, then I will ask interested members to email me their offers by email. Is this acceptable?
Once again I would like to thank you for your assistance and kindness.
Sincerely,
Robert
