Hello I have a great Persian rug. Its dimension are approx. 17ft. 8in by 10ft. 4in.

I inherited from my Father. The Colors are deep and beautiful. On the bottom side of one of the corners there are two small tags.
One says M.E.E. Co. and Made in Iran and something else that is too faded to read. The other has the numbers 0744 and 3950 and a little symbol.

On one end of the rug the tassels are coming a bit loose. Other than that it seems in great condition.

I Have included photos. this is a link to a photobucket account http://s110.photobucket....6003/New%20Rug%20Photos/

I am trying to ascertain an approximation of its worth

The price of a rug like this is very much depending on its condition. From the pictures it is not possible to tell if it is damaged on the fringes, has low pile areas and so on. It is a very nice rug, but the large size is not easy to sell at a good price for private party. To get a better idea, have it checked by an expert in person.

agreed with kad. large rugs can get a premium if from a dealer, but as a private party fresh out of home there are too many upfront costs for everybody in most instances. it's a tough size to sell, high shipping fee. Typically large rugs actually used in home will have a higher rate of issues such as dry areas or places in need of repair or areas of very uneven wear. They don't get rotated the way they should or would normally to distribute traffic patterns. Especially consider proper, professional cleaning - very expensive in this size.

even if on par with a 9x12 in every aspect, a 9x12 could easily catch two fold the price of this. However, if fixed up well, cleaned, overcasted and a proven beauty - provided you don't mind waiting it out for a while - you can get every bit of what you should
