Hi. A couple of weeks ago I was given a large rug, all bundled up. Rolled out it measures 10 feet 11 inches wide by 22 feet long and boy is it heavy! As you can see, it has a very nice pattern and may be old but also the wear on it could be from where it was used. It has some damage in the center areas as well which I have included photos of. I have no idea where it came from, it was in a storage unit for quite a long time and one of my colleagues in the storage business gave it to me as she just wanted it out of the unit so she could re-rent it. Trash or treasure?

good question. Depends. It looks like a 1930's or 40's to me. Old Mohajeran sarouk design from persian rugs, re done in India or Turkey I believe. would be interested to see what others say. tough sell in this condition and size.

Agree with rugpro. Reproduction of a rug with Mohadjeran design, made in Turkey, probably in the city of Isparta. The knoting technic would make me think that.
Not a tresure, since defects are very large and a restauration would cost a real lot of money. You might get a bit of money on ebay, since some dealers buy rugs like that and send them to turkey to have them repaired.

Thanks RugPro and KAD, at least I now have something to say about it that I didn't before. KAD, when you say a bit of money what would you think would be a reasonable starting price if I was to sell it? Not sure if I am going to yet, I kinda like the rug and might hang onto it.

This is definetely a copy of a Persian Sarouk rug (not Mohajeran) most probably made in Turkey, but with the present condition, it is not worth much. I would recommend you find a good space for it where the worn and torn sections would be covered by a table or some piece of furniture so you can enjoy the healthy parts of it. Colors are nice, so enjoy it ...

Rugpro, my opinion 100% turkish. Defenetly not indian (you are probably thinking about Agra area?)India was my first thought also looking at the pictures showing the entire rug (style, colors), but the detail of the knots and the shirazi tell everything.

Here a link to a rug on ebay that is very much in the same style, but not as old.Look at the knot strukture.

somewhat thinking about agra, but not really. there used to be carpets made in india 1920-1940 mainly called sharistan. I do see Turkey after viewing again

Looking at the images again, I am pretty sure this is a Turkish rug.
