Hello: We bought a rug from a donation store for $50. It seems to be very high quality....wool fibers....hand-knotted. Can someone help? We would love to find out what kind of rug this is. thanks!

Sorry it's very hard to tell from the pictures you've posted. It does look hand-knotted but doesn't look to be too high a quality. Design Indo-Nepal? From the pictures provided it is really difficult to even make out what it is.

Looks like it is probably an indo nepal. You got a great deal. It's hand knotted

Thank you for responding....I have attached new photos. Again, this rug was donated to a Goodwill store and I bought it for $50. Hoping someone can help us identify what type of rug or where it might have come from. It's 8 x 10, wool fibers, no stains, rips or holes. Thanks!

Your rug is a Indo-Nepali. This means it is made in India using a technic that comes from tibetan rug making. It is nice in design, but the value is not very high. Rugs in this quality sell at a price of approx. 3 - 4 $ per squarefoot new retail.

Retail? A 3x2m wool hand-knotted rug for £140? Where from?!

But yeah, Maynard, good buy for $50 but not a top top quality knotted rug - these are kind of modern knotted rugs probably aimed at getting customers onto the hand-knotted ladder.

Little persia - look at the picture with the quater - looks like below even 40 knots! I am sure not even half of the pile is wool.

I suppose. Although I'd struggle to get decent quality machine-made wool for that price. Not my cup of tea and I don't understand why they make these 'modern' rugs hand-knotted but then I suppose crude Gabbehs could be considered fairly modern with low knot counts...

it may be low in knots, but as long as its being made, replacement costs continues to rise.
