Our owner bought a rug recently, most expensive we've ever bought per square metre as far as I know. I think it's a really good looking rug but feel he's paid well over the odds for what it is. Maybe I'm wrong...

What are you guys thoughts on this rug and its value? (3.6m x 1.8m)

This is a very very very wonderful carpet.

It looks like a copy from old Petag Tabriz. But never saw new pieces like this. Backside looks like Arak region.

It is a new copy or inspiration taken from an older Tabriz rug (probably found in an auction or rug magazine).

Yes Turkey, or that's where the company is from anyway. As I thought we were over-charged/paid too much (probably twice what we should have! Brick wall ) although I suppose we only bought one rather than our usual 15-20 at a time so can't really expect wholesale prices, saying that the difference we paid is huge so it'll be the last time we'll use that company if I have anything to do with it. The joys of working with a complete rug addict... it's an uphill struggle at times, like a kid in a candy store as the Americans would say.

I don't know what you paid, but as a rug customer rather than rug dealer: if someone gave me the choice between this one and a "comtemporary" superfine 20,000 dollar nain, I'd go for this one anytime.

Thanks for the feedback. It is a beautiful rug. We probably paid too much but I'm sure it will sell eventually (of faster at a lower margin).

This is a great example of what is made in Turkey today in high grade rugs. There are a few companies that produce this type of rug. Pepending on quality, there are wholesale prices that are extraordinary high. Most of these rugs are sold in US as antique rugs by retailers with extreme prices.
And Shereen, I agree about making a choise on this or a Nain.

On the pictures little persia posted, the back of the rug told the secret (at least for me). Looking on picture 1 on top of the post, I would not be able to tell. Belly feeling was Turkey, but back side picture and the fringes told the truth. The small picture Shereen posted could easily be both. Asking my belly feeling says new turkish.

Thanks, KAD. The one I posted is up on DLB's website as one of their many antique Tabriz, and the similarity in colors and design choices to the one Little Persia bought is striking, especially if you look at the blown-up photo (which you can't copy). I'd love to see the back of it ... . Wonder what DLB is charging for theirs.
