Afternoon from Afghanistan
Here is the next rug that caught my eye.
Measures 2(m)x3(m)
100% wool hand made
asking price $450(USD)
Any help would be greatful.

Looks like a nice piece to me. Is that a quarter/nickel/dime you're using? (don't know my US coins, looks different from normal)

So around 100KPSI which isn't high but that doesn't seem to reflect poorly on the design.

I like it, you'd probably get it a bit cheaper if you were buying in more bulk but at $75/m2 I'd say the price is good for a single piece.

Looks Pak-Persian rather than Afghan.

I love the colors in this one and the design, the knot count is 110. Good eye. So for a rug of the same size what sort of knot count should I be looking for in a better quality rug?

100-120 is kind of normal for Afghan rugs. Chobis and Khal Mohammadis are normally in this range (10 knots by 11 knots). For a floral design like that there would normally be a bit more just to allow for a more curved design. But because the design is not overly busy it looks good even at 110.

I'd say 14/14 would be considered fine in Afghan rugs - 8/8 is the bottom end of typical - 10/10 - 12/12 would be the normal range.

More important is a) that you like it and b) if the quality of wool is good.

It's difficult to say really, go by touch compared to other rugs. It shouldn't feel dry, rough or brittle (should have a bit of an oily sheen to it).
