I posted some other methods of hanging rugs (velcro, rods, ...) but all these methods use more than one anchor bolt to the wall. I wanted to figure out a way to hang a rug similar to a painting, where it has the wire along the back, so it can be easily moved from different locations. Other things I wanted, pretty flat against the wall, no visible frame and cheap supplies. Here's what I came up with. I painted the boards with clear coat and used stainless screws.

Very nice fredgrower. So you just attach the ruler to the rug by light tacking at the top? What kind of thread? And I'm guessing you didn't penetrate to the front?
It's an economical + elegant solution (for an elegant and ...er maybe not economical rug!)

I used heavy duty thread (like for sewing on buttons) and you do have to "penetrate" to the front, move over a few mm. then push the needle back through, as I tighten the thread, I used the tip of the needle to 'fluff' the pile around the thread on the front until it is completely invisible...I have to be economical now that I've 'gone crazy' buying $$$ rugs!

It looks great - Very clever method of hanging your rug! Did penetrating to the front cause any damage if you were to take it down? Is the thread noticable through the front of the rug?
Nice work!
