Hello all,

I just joined the rug rag forum and I'm hoping someone could help me. I just purchased this rug off of eBay for what looks like a great deal. Was wondering if anyone can give me some information on it and whether you think it's a good price.

I've had some communication with the seller when I needed to cancel a previously won eBay item and they were very professional so I assume this rug is authentic. They listed the estimated retail value as $10,000 - $12,000

Well, the description of the rug (other than that it was hand-knotted in Iran) is a load of BS, but this is very common for ebay commercial rug sellers, sadly almost the norm. It doesn't say whether the rug is new. If it isn't new (as in not previously used), but has no flaws (repairs, stains, wear, dirt, etc.), the price you paid maybe ok. If it is new, the price is quite reasonable, I would guess. The seller has some negative feedback of the kind that would make me be careful, though. If you bought the rug for use and because you really like its look, it may be just the right thing for you. As an investment, it wouldn't be worth buying. Design is Ardebil.

ps: you may also want to have a look at the bid activity of the second highest bidder: 100% bidding with the seller, and bids on 31 rugs of the seller. This makes me guess that the seller thought they'd make a profit if they sell the rug for more than 674 USD, but of course that's just a guess.

The rug is a very good commercial Sarouk from Iran. Forget the description - as Shereen posted: BS :-). The rug is used, you can tell from the worn areas on the pictures. But it is still in good condition. It was made around 1970 - 80. If it was new, it would cost at least 2500$. But in this condition it is still a good deal. You can use this rug for many many years and still sell it for what you paid for now. So if you like the rug, there is no reason to send it back quality and price are ok.
