I recently purchased this rug at an estate sale in Memphis, TN for $60. I don't know much about it except that it is not in the best condition. The black fibers have worn down. In the little research I have done (and I am way out of my league here) but I am guessing it is Caucasian but I know that there are different tribes within that category. The size is not symmetrical by any means--but roughly 48in X 58 in.I love the colors in the rug--most seem to be natural dyes, but again not sure. I am curious to find out if the inscription in the second picture (left corner) is a date, and if so, could anyone tell me what it is. Also, what is the significance of the Lesghi star as it seems that it has been used to create a human figure (even though it wasn't allowed or was it?) Really I just want to know more about this rug. The first 3 pictures are of the front side and the fourth picture is the back (where you can see the repairs)and the fifth picture is a close up with the quarter. Thank you in advance for all of your expert replies!

for what it is, a floorcovering with history, it was probably worth it. pinks are actually bad dye - at one point they were a bright red, now very badly faded. The wear in the center is very, very, heavy. Even if this rug were in perfect condition it would not be worth a tremendous amount. Without seeing detail of the selvage and fringe, it seems to be from early 1900s, perhaps from the Caucasian region

Hi bukhara--Thank you for your reply--I posted a few close up pictures on the fb link in my original post. The second picture (bottom left hand side) there are two what-looks-to-be numeral characters in the "white space"? Thanks again! Shawna
