Please note: This rug as the rest of antique rugs we selling are all from estate in the US and not one of those rugs coming from Europe in the last few years.

I asked him what does that mean?

here's his response

Dealers in the USA going to Europe buying low end old rugs and selling in the USA for a little less then normal prices.

The good Persian rugs in late 1800s sold all to the US and the low end to Europe and also Persian rugs aged MUCH better in the US and you can see a rug coming from Europe compare to the good estate rugs.

I think he's right. I'll try and translate as how I understand this antique rug buying/selling phenomenon.

Rugs that have aged in the states weather faster than those that age in Europe. Be it our lifestyles, the chemicals in our washing processes, the way we wear shoes in the house, etc., American-aged rugs tend to get the antique look quicker than European-aged rugs and it is for this reason they are coveted. A 50 year old rug that aged in the states can look like a 80 year old European rug. They sell better and for more money.

WOW!

I understand correctly, that the worst carpets in Iran, Turkmenistan, Caucasus, ect. in countries where people know how hard it is weaving a rug, and keep them very carefully or even kept in chests.

bukhara, I like your sense of humour.

It's absurd, isn't it? When you look at the Doris Leslie Blau website, a rug in which the colours have almost disappeared due to light exposure and/or repeated (bad) washing is as expensive, or more expensive, than one that kept closer to its original distinct colours, and the pale-on-pale plus faded Oushaks and Tabriz get the highest prices, since the designers go for them, and their clients have all the money ...

On the other hand, I should admit, what was "Tiffany's" for Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" is the Doris Leslie Blau antique rug section website for me ...

Shereen,

What you say applies only to a limited quantitty of decorative rugs. Also, carpets that you have noticed often fade and acquire more soft colors (no matter where they lay, in the USA or in Europe, the sun is the same).
You can imagine that someone wants trampled and bald Shirvan or bad washed Tekke?

Shereen,

FrankMarten seems to spam a lot. Comments on a post without really saying anything.

There doesn't seem to be a way of reporting*

The forum monitors are usually pretty diligent and watchful. A gentle nudge would probably get them to weed any spammers.
