I'm not necessarily looking for an appraisal or specific identification. Rather I'm a bit confused because what I recently bought appears to be a sennah knot handmade rug, however, the fringe is stitched onto the ends which goes against all other identifiers. The thread count is about 90 and the wool yarn is pretty thick. It's a large rug measuring 11.5ft x 16ft. The rug is foldable in any direction. I've attached a couple photos. One is partially unrolled where the front and back are easily compared and very similar. Others are closeup of the knots on the back, the selvages, the pile and one of the top fourth (can't fully unroll due to space) plus a cluseup of the corner detail.

???

I am confusedShame on you

The backside and the front looks to me like a Kerman rug. But the direction of the knot structure is different. The selvages are where the frings must be, the frings (renewed?) where the selvages have to be.

Karastan is a US manufacturer in little town of Eden, North Carolina (now a part of Mohawk Indutries). This is from the "Original Collection" which is axminster woven. They stopped using that fringe length 8 or 10 years ago - now using a shorter version.

Thanks for all the help. For it's size and quality I think we got a good rug for the price. Too bad it's not the rare bargain find. I've certainly had the crash course in identifying rugs.

Thanks again.

Excellent point Jim. Identifying Karastan age by the newer or older version fringe is a very useful tip!
