I have a rug that is approximately 7 x 10 1/2. It was given to me however it doesn't really match my home and I would like to sell it.

I recently had it professionally cleaned. It appears to be in excellent overall condition.

I was told by the cleaner that it is definitely silk. I'm having a hard time getting a good picture of it, as it looks different shades depending on the angle you look at it.

I would like to know where this rug is from and the approximate value. Thanks in advance.

Your rug seems to be a chinese reproduction of a Hereke silk rug. If you could post a detail picture of the back showing the knots it will be easier to tell the exact origin.

Fredgrower posted a listing some time ago with a rug in almost equal size priced at $ 2700.

To me it looks like a Kayserie from Turkey.

Thank you. I have attached some addditional pictures below. I was told by te cleaner that he thought it was Indian. Is that possible? Also, what would be the best way to sell this rug quickly?

Yep...it is a Kayserie one. Try it on Ebay. You will get a good price.

Thanks. So it is from Turkey, not China? What would be an approximate value? Are the classifieds here a good place to sell?

I haven't sold anything on eBay so I'm guessing it would be difficult for me to get this sold with no history. Cragslist perhaps?

If this is Kayseri, and 7x10(not including fringe), would $4k be an unreasonable amount to expect?

Is there any way to confirm its origin?

I am located in northern California.

4k are a bit too high. It is not a so fine Kayserie to be so high priced from private. Try Ebay, there is no better way.

Would $2500 - $3K be a more realistic expectation? Is there any doubt that it is Kayserie, or is there something in the pictures that makes it obviously Kayserie?

Kleemann,

everything in this rug is typical Kayserie. Weaving, colors, design. The design is not the best because of the turquoise
color and the medaillon. There are allover designs you can sell for 5k.

Thank you for your assistance. I have posted it in my local craigslist at $3300 obo. Do you think that is reasonable? I did the burn test on the fringe and a small loop to confirm it is all silk.
