Hello, its me after a long time.

Here is a carpet i bought last week. It is not in my hands and the only pic i can give you is this. I put it together, i only had a half image of the carpet. It is 400/370 cm. And surely very old. Is it a Khorassan one?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris, nice to see you post again.

You want us to come up with wild guesses, based on this one photo of half a rug ... ?
Here you go.
Old: yes. How old? 1910? 1890?
It's wonky, so it's not a workshop rug.
Could it be Tabriz area? (Except the pinkish red is not typical.)
Could it perhaps even be Turkish?
Or, yes, Khorassan.
Colors remind me a bit of Baluch rugs, around 1910 (The "beetroot period"), if the light brown is real camel hair. Not that I believe it's Baluch, but would support Khorassan, perhaps.
Kerman? Seems less likely to me, but this is just intuition, haven't seen that many really antique Kermans, and they were often more elongated.

There you go.
Now let's see what the experts say.

Hello Shereen.

It is often not easy for me to put a carpet in the right place. But if somebody saw a carpet with this design and border before he will be able to help us.

You are rather close with your guess the red seems from Khorassan. Here is the original image from the carpet:

Tabriz carpets from this age are more fine in the design.

That photo comes out a lot better on my screen. Beautiful rug, whatever it is, the sort of thing I would have bought (if I had the place for it). Is there an olive green base, in the "petals", three removed from the center? I've never seen the exact field design. Looks like someone tried an Ardebil type rosette, and oops, the whole field was filled.

Looking at some of the flowers on the camel brown, the somewhat angular execution and at the way the white is used, I now wonder whether it could be Fereghan, perhaps, though the colours are not right/typical?

Another thing is that on this photo I feel even less clear about the age of the rug.

In short, I really have no idea, but like the rug :)

KAD, RugPro, where are you?

Hi RugPro,
thank you for the kind words.

Really there are no specific characteristics on those old big rugs without knowledge of weaving. But often the border shows the right way. Those kind of border i usually saw in east Persian rugs.

Bukhara, Little Persia...Bachtiar...i would be pleased if. I love Bachtiar rugs.

Let me pick up this piece and as soon as possible i will post more pics.

Chris
