Hello! I ran into this carpet in a store, and I want to know more about it (so I can find a cheaper one, or perhaps know what to look for later on in life when I have more money....).

Pics are here; they're a little big...and crappy thanks to a phone camera. But enough detail to help identify, I hope!

The colors were stunning - slightly muted; perhaps vegetal dyes? The rug was labeled as a "Sirjan" rug.....from India. From what I can find on the net, Sirjan rugs are Iranian. But then as I was about to give up looking for another online, I found this: http://www.1001rugs.com/cgi-bin/store/commercepages.cgi?ID=010745

If anyone can tell me anymore information about this rug style, where it was made or the name/style of the design (I read it's possibly moharamat?) I would really appreciate it! I really hope I get the chance to own one.

Thanks!

Definitely Sirjan, looks to be Kilim. Surprised that it's labelled India because it's a very nice piece but why would they say India rather than Iran unless it's true and they are being honest - which is good.

They come in different qualities and price ranges, you should be able to find one a lot cheaper than on 1001rugs.com

Thanks so much! So are you saying the *style* is Sirjan? If you were to search for this design of carpet online, what search terms would you use?

I found a similar carpet (in design pattern) on ebay and they labelled it as "Dazkiri Style"; have a look.

This is all so confusing, but I don't intend to give up! As to your point; yes, I think they were being honest about where it was physically woven. They said it was "exclusively made for them" but my guess is that it was modeled after some older example. I just wish I knew how to find them beyond browsing and scrolling until my eyes bleed..... =)

Cheers!

A-HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I found the answer here! Previous poster was correct - it's Sirjan and the specific style/weave is Soumak.

Thanks all!
