I've read everything I could about American sarouks, but it leaves me with some questions.
First, when or have they quit painting sarouks. I have a very nice red painted 1950 sarouk that I didn't know was painted until I saw the back side was lighter than the front.
Do the newer rug not have to worry about painting since the dye is not as corrosive and , ofcourse, if the money is in unpainted, they will make unpainted.

I would assume he attached 78"X42" is within the last 10-40 years and the back blue is the same as the front. How much difference in value in a blue sarouk that is new versus a 1950 that is red painted.

A dealer is trying to buy it from me and I don't have the slightest idea of worth. I would imagine a dealer would pay 25-50% of the ultimate selling price, unless they can get it for 1-15% of retail.

The artifical light gives the yellow tone. It is in emtremely good condition with a stiff handle and good pile and color

Thanks

This rug is probably from pakistan, and is not old.

This is a good topic, although when we talk numbers on the forum, please give exact, not a percentage of what they may or may not buy it for.

How much is the dealer willing to pay?

Thanks RugPro,the reason I didn't give exact figures is the dealer hadn't given me hard numbers. We were talking about a qhom I have and he said he would be interested in buying my sarouk (my informattion I gave him and I wanted to be prepared and know what I had

I know the rug isn't old and that produced my question of old versus new.

I am surprised that it is Pakistiani. As the non-expert the big knots usually tell me it is Pakistiani or Afghani etc. However, my American sarouck also has big knots albeit not the length of kilim. Since both rugs had about the same handle, have the weight almost of a bijar and of course blue weft that is why I thought it MIGHT be sarouk.

The attachments is a sarouk I have to compare the fringe corner.
Of course an untrained eye takes bites of information and draw wrong conclusions.
I'm in the medical field and it's always interesting for the self-diagnosing patient to read something on the internet and know for a fact they are afflicted with that disease.
