Hmm...to me, this looks to be a mercerized cotton tapestry, most likely machine-made, and possibly of European or Turkish origin. The prayer is written as a mirror image of itself, as opposed to in the right direction, so the the writing was probably done for aesthetic purposes and maybe done by someone who doesn't read Arabic? Just a thought. It is an interesting decorative piece, but I'm not sure if it should be called a rug, exactly.
