I'd be interested in identifying this, so I know what to call it. It was listed as a "Forest Kashan." It's 4'3" X 6'7". I'm sorry I don't have better photos.

Looks like Kashan from the design, but the back and knots make me think Ghiasabad. Also the Fringes, the Kelim and the colors look like Ghiasabad. The used colors seem to be natural, and the rug is probably a Sherkat or Etfa production. Real nice quality rug.

Thank you very much KAD. You're worth your weight in ... Amoghli Mashad! I learned a bit about Sherkat rugs when you mentioned the term previously, and I also found what I could on Ghiasabad. Now "Etfa," which is new to me, will carry me further. I'd like to know approximate age, and value. It was originally advertised for $1700 but I got it for a good deal less.

Thanks for the flowers ;-). Sherkat and Etfa are large producers of usually good quality rugs. They started a strong production in the 1990`s producing traditional designs with natural dyes and great wool quality. Sherkat is a few grades higher in quality, Etfa aimed at the mass market. Due to the network of workshops all over Iran they where able to save a lot of money since they could centralise dying and spinning of wool. But with this "globalicacion" the designs where exchanged also. Therefor you often find design elements from other cities in these rugs. The price you mentioned is fair for a rug this quality, if you paied less - be happy. Age? - Made between 1995 und 2000.
