It depends it you want it appraised for insurance purposes or just for yourself. RugRag.com can do appraisals, but if you want an insurance company to accept it you will need to have a local person look at it (or ship it off to someone). I called around in my town and found someone who'd do one for $75...he inspected it, photographed it and wrote up a paper I can fax to my insurance company (of course have to pay extra to have it insured, as rugs are considered 'fine art' and my insurance company said the rug had to be hung for them to insure it).
