I found this in a thrift store---looks perfect in my SW/Lodge decor. Can anyone identify it for me? Thanks!

The border elements and the four elements in the corners of the field as well as the medallion and some other elements (the way the borders connect with a tooth pattern) are based on elements taken from Turkish and Caucasian kilims and Caucasian rugs, but the size, coordination of design elements and colours are typical for Indian kilims. Such kilims have been produced for export for decades in India. Although they are not Native American, they tend to go very well with SouthWestern decor. There are these days even weavers in India that imitate Navajo designs, but yours is not one of them.

If you have close-up photos, the Indian origin can be confirmed by the weave and the wool (or cotton) used, and by the way the ends are done.

This brings up an interesting topic.

I currently live just north of Navajo Country - and I noticed that a lot of Navajo kilims show motifs that I've come to know as Persian/Oriental.

Did some research -- and round the trading post managers along the railroads - used to bring Oriental design rugs to the Navajo --- and say "here - make them like this." (in a matter of words).

Today - many of the nicer Navajo rugs employ themes they adapted from Asia.

Kind of a fascinating topic, if you ask me!

So it wasn't the silk road but the iron road that shared cultures. :)
