I'm still looking for a rug or two to buy here in Doha, and I could use a runner. The selection is surprisingly scarce for runners at the various stores I've visited, but I found these yesterday that are intriguing. Could someone give me an estimate on pricing?

The first (images 1-3) is a Nain runner, which is 301cm x approx 79cm (didn't take a picture of the tag and only wrote down the length). The price quoted, subject to negotiation, was $661.

The second (images 4-6) is a Tabriz runner, similar width to the Nain but 308cm long. The price quoted was $1291. (edit: Added the larger image to give a better view)

The third (images 7-8) is another Tabriz runner at 77x294, and the price was $1373 (I think, he also talked about one for $2472).

The third (9-10) and fourth (last two) ones are Baluchi and are about the same size as the 2nd Tabriz. They were priced at $329 each. The price is attractive on these, but I am not a big fan of them.

Any thoughts?

I agree with Jahann, the first "Nain" is a Tabbas, low quality (would rather say junk). The second rug is a used Kashmir wool rug, nothing great. The next one (black all over design) is a very good quality Tabriz rug, this one is the 2400$ rug. It is worth it. It you can get it cheaper it is ok, but the price is fair. The next one with geometric design and creme and orange color is a Meshkin from north western Iran, not fine, but will last long. Price is ok, since it is a used rug. The last one is a Baluch, can be compared with the one before in quality and price.

There is nothing wrong with Tabbas Nains. They are perfectly good rugs, but they should never be passed off as just plain Nains because Nain rugs are tighter in weave and made of baby lamb's wool, while Tabbas Nains are made of regular wool and are of a looser weave.

Nain rugs are like Audis, with the best quality, the 4-ply Nains, being like Porsches. Someone who drives a Porsche would probably think that a Volkswagen is junk, but they run and are cute to look at, and hey, a Volkswagen will always beat riding the Bus (machine-made).

Nice comparison - but I personally have my problems with Tabas (at least most of them). Probofolboy, if you have it in a bedroom, it is not used that much, and it will last many years. We get Tabas in for washing and repair quite often - they don`t look good at all (most of them). The big time of Tabas was started about 15 years ago, and their climax on the market was about 10 years ago. When I look at a well used 10 year old Tabas and a Indian 9/60 quality at about the same price range, the Tabas has no chance. The wool quality is so poor, often the silk is artifical - this is no great invention of persian rug making. And the rug pictured above is one of the lowest Tabas qualities you can find. Yes, I would rather buy a quality machine made rug of a new wool quality than a Tabas in this quality. We sell any kind of rug, from machine made Shaggy to finest Isfahan, Hereke and Qum, but one product I kicked out of my sortiment more than 10 years ago is Tabas.
