I want this rug! I first gave up on the idea, as the price seems steep...KPSI 600, silk/wool, funky green background (which I love). 5'11x3'9" c1940. Sold 2006 for 2,160 pounds. For sale again, anyone have any ideas what a rug like this is really worth?

His price is fair. There are a few "Seirafians" in Isfahan, and this is not the most expensive one, but it is original, and in great condition. If you try to find something like this in a store, you might be at 10000 - 12000 $ asking price.

Ahem, "my collection is complete."
When people here want to move rugs out in order to move rugs in, is there a mechanism for selling to each other?

It's a real sickness!! If I get this rug, I will probably hang it, as I wouldn't want my dogs to ruin this one! Huruburu would you like a red floral chinese 90 line rug (it's real heavy, shipping might be $$).
There is the 'contact member' in which you can send messages directly to another, as far as sales, the person could post it on eBay (if they want some sort of protection) or just transfer funds through paypal (and hope the person is honest).

I've got nothing really to add but that rug really is an eye-popper. Gorgeous.

Nice rug. I remember the seller of this rug also had 2 other Seirafian. Ask him. Previously, they were all on Ebay, now maybe they're only on his website.

Yeah, he has a few others, the most expensive is a pictorial priced at $49,500 (7'2x4'9)...the least expensive $3,500 (4'x6). He claims he was the buyer at the Christie's auction, for the rug I like. Does anyone know, when things get auctioned at Christies, do they supply any history of the piece or is this information (on previous owners) kept secret?

They usually do not give any information unless it is a sale of a prominent collector selling his collection, then it is published in the catalog, since then the objects often get a way better result. I had contact with the seller about 4 or 5 years ageo, back then he was looking very seriously for Seirafians.

The seller has to pay an illustration fee from $250 to $750, depending on the size of ad. The fee is requred for all products. I had a 1890 Shasavan that Christie's offered to put in their secondary "Home and Decor" auction. IHowever, I decided to pass on the risk /benefit anaylsis. The Christies' buyer thought it go for $2,000 to $2,500, but everyone, including Chris and other local experts thought $1,000 maximum.
So I could spend $300 including shipping and insurance, Christie's take 25% so my take home would be $450 if it sold. If it didn't sell I would still be stuck with the stuck with the upfront money. It would have been great to have a rug in Chrisitie's but I just got too busy.
I bought the rug for $50 at a day auctiion of O'Gallerie's who has some fame for selling another rug that went for much more at a New York auction.
Maybe that is why I find myself picking up old rugs hoping for the same.

9 out of 10 Seirafians are fake.

I would not be the least bit bashful about insisting on a receipt if he claimed he bought it at Christie's.

Check the alleged date against the signature guide:
