Hi,
Is this a real Qum silk rug from Iran? What is it worth on EBAY?
Thanks! http://rover.ebay.com/ro...9&mtid=824&kw=lg

It is a real qum silk rug from Iran. It is of fine quality and seems to well maintained - as new condition. KPSI would probably be around 580 - 600. The main color is a little difficult, seems to be some kind of lavender tone. In combination with the salmon color border rather unususal and doesn`t fit the most customers demand, but it also makes it a very unusual rug. The price range in this size (ca. 150 x 100 cm / 5 x 3`4 rather than 6 x 4) goes from 2500 up to more than 10000 depending on the rug. A fair retail shop price for this quality is around 3500 - 4500 USD.

Many thanks KAD! I asked this seller for a photo of the back of the rug, so I'll post that if it arrives.

Bidding has ended on this item, with no bid, not even 1 USD.
Seems possible that someone made good (if not entirely honorable) use of KADs expertise ...

Well, it also sounded as if the seller knew the rug's value. I hope so.

This seller also had two Iranian Nain Shishla Habibians listed on EBAY, which also have been ended. It did occur to me (afterward) that I had posted online information about a very nice rug at $1 and no reserve. He did seem to know what he had for sale was valuable. So I think he would have ended the bidding early if he didn't get his price.

Maybe. (But most rug buyers on ebay bid at the last second. And most no reserve items that are valuable and start low have the seller bid under a different name, if the price isn't getting high enough.)

Alternative: someone e-mailed the seller, saying, "hey, I'll give you 3000 USD for all three rugs, plus, you save the e-bay fees".

Just kidding!! This is the reason I didn't post the Isfahan before bidding on it. Post here are risk the chance of a lifetime deal!! The seller probably realized he needed to put a 'reserve' price on the rugs, plus it was a bit 'sketchy' the way you had to pay with creditcard outside eBay, which is ok, if the seller has a store, but the seller couldn't even post the actual shipping price or know what the knot count was...but, the rugs did look pretty nice. (No more bidding for me, but it's fun to look!)
One more thing on bidding, something like this bid just a couple dollars and the seller is required to leave the auction running...no bids and they can delete it.
