Puh.
This rug design looks like Saryk Turkmen. The colors a bright and chemical. But the weaving looks older. I guess it is a 1940-1960 Afghan/Baluch copy of an old Saryk.

I agree with Chris about everything but age. I think this is max 30 years old.

This rug from Turkmenistan from 1930. Many people there call it Tekke-Salor, but turkmens says Pendi.

Thanks for the info. I thought it might be a bit older than 1930's but the colors are pretty hot. The gold is an odd color. I like the rug though.

Unlikely to be older than 1930 - I would think probably a little more recent than that, though I agree with Chris, the weave looks old, and to me the wool, too, and the rug has a feeling of authenticity to it which, say, many mass produced 'bokhara Turkmen' rugs don't have.

Are the knots symmetrical? (still learning - can someone confirm?). In that case, Baluch copy of Turkmen is less likely then Turkmen?

Would say 1960-80, turkmen republic origin, no balutch. This quality was produced in large amounts as export merchendise from soviet union. Design and color did not change much over the years, and are still around. One of the major importers for europe was Deutsch-Sowietische Handelsgesellschaft.

It has been in storage the past 20 years so the fact that it hasn't been used in awhile probably makes it look brighter. I was hoping it was from around 1915 but probably is not. I've had a pile of rugs in storage for awhile and started pulling them out the other day to take pictures. I periodically check them for moths.
