I did some research and it seems like carpet beetles and some other bugs like 'starch'...I was going to 'wash, stretch and starch' this rug (to hide the dropped weft crease), but 'stretching' was a pain, so I only nailed the rug to the top of the frame, to use as a drying rack (don't try this at home:) I've decided this rug needs to find a new home (either thrift store donation, 'free' Craig's list or out back for the dogs to enjoy), can anyone tell me what type of rug this is? The colors did not run, but the crease annoys me to the point of parting with this rug. (Now that my rug collection is growing).

Here's a couple more photos:

Washing a rug isnt so hard. Some little pieces i take with under the shower. Streching a wet rug without speciall construction is nearly impossible.
This rug looks really nice with this grapes. Without having more detaills my guess is old Mehraban or something between Arak and Hamadan area.

I think the rug looks really nice too. If you are determined to part with it, why not give it as a gift.
I like the idea of taking it with you under the shower first! (not sure of dimensions!)

Size: 3x5' too big for the bathtub, took it out on the porch and shampooed it there, the crease is there to stay!! I'd feel bad giving it to someone, it's like a great dog, that's sick.

This is a rug in the Voysey Donegal "Oak Park" pattern. They were produced at the beginning of the 20th century in various colours and sizes in Ireland and they are now reproduced in various rug-producing countries. They are rather desirable rugs, reproductions included. A little crease, never mind. (If you gave it to me, I'd happily pay the shipping, and I'm sure others would.)

You can see a photo of the same pattern on a different rug for which I put up a link in the recent discussion strand "craftsman rug". Here's the link again.

That's amazing! I'm standing in line too! I'm Irish actually, and spent a lot of my childhood in Donegal, but never saw anything like this!

I'm laughing! When I was in Donegal I thought I was a goat jumping over the rocks. And I *do* remember Donegal carpets, not as something thriving but something in decline. This thread encourages me to find out more.
Now of course Fredgrower is in the shower with the lovely oakleaves!

...no space in Fredgrowers shower for this rug. Unwashed and creased on the way to Shereen, he pays the shippingcosts and wash it in his swimmingpool.

Now I'm sad...I was hoping everyone would say this rug is garbage.

No fredgrower. I'd be happy to look after your sick dog. I'm sure lots of people would, as Shireen said. But you might find her just great after all.

Ah, Chris, not everyone in the US has a swimmingpool, not even everyone in Connecticut. (Although I do know someone who has a Jacuzzi in their bathroom, wonder up to what size rug one could wash in that ...)
