My mother has the opportunity to purchase this rug, which a friend bought in Afghanistan. It measures 3x5, is silk (perhaps on cotton?) and appears to be hand knotted, since the lines are not perfectly straight. We counted about 13 colors present in the rug, and the image is the same on the back as on the front. The back has a label that says “Sino Persian” but other than that no markings we can find about type, etc. Any general estimate you could give on value would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I believe 'sino-persian' means it was made in China...if all silk, price around $350 is what I've paid (Ebay), the problem with all silk rugs it they're thin and should be in a low traffic area or hung on the wall. The rug has quite a few white spots which are flaws and makes it not worth as much.

From the pictures I would say artifical chinese silk with persian design. The colors are so unclear and washed out, I think someone tryed to wash it by himself and the colors ran. I would not pay more than 100 - 150 US$ for this.

it is be tightly woven (with more than 200 knots per sq. in., and often with 500 or more knots), intricately detailed, closely clipped, and it does have a real silk fringe that is clearly an extension of the rug's structure, not sewn on or sewn into the ends of the silk rug. Artificial silk oriental rugs often have only medium weaves (less than 250 knots per sq. in., and sometimes less than 150 knots per in.), and often have cotton fringe. Good quality real silk Persian rugs always have real silk fringe. The price would be 250$-300$ for that.. :)
